The Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, has defended breaking her promise not to process asylum seekers in Papua New Guinea.
Her government has signed a deal with PNG to reopen the Manus Island detention centre, although it is unclear how much reopening will cost or how many people the centre will hold.
