ALP rushes new laws for asylum plan

LEGISLATION will be rushed into Parliament to allow the federal government to resurrect its failed attempt to send asylum seekers to Malaysia.

Although the Greens are firmly opposed to offshore processing, the government may win the support of independents, with Tony Windsor and Rob Oakeshott saying they would wait for the details of the new policy before making a decision.

The support of the independents alone, however, would not be enough to get the legislation through the Parliament.
